This has got to be the cutest thing since that gif of the kitty falling asleep.
Jenna on October 27, 2007
Yes it is very cute… but look at the bones sticking out of the puppy. Looks like a starving stray; I hope whoever took these pictures gave the poor baby some food.
all i have to say is you need to watch aspca because if that puppy is yours you’d be going to jail for undernourishment plus France its not cute its sad a little puppy is freezing and by the looks of it hungry so instead of taking a picture get the animals a blanket and some food
cute but I hate to see my little dogs out side shaking when its cold, either let them inside or get a dog house to protect them from the cold, same for cats.
Now if mankind could gain such wisdom the world would be a better place.

this just proves us that animals like humans have feelings too and should not be maltreated in any way. So Prince William and Kate Middleton? stop hunting those poor whatever you call those animals coz they did nothing to you

Sean on October 30, 2007
This doesn’t prove that animals have feelings, and I’ll show you why. Here’s your argument:
1) A and B are animals
2) A and B are behaving in a way similar to humans
3) Conclusion: A and B, who are animals, have feelings.
The problem arises in premise 2). It is only your perception that the dog and cat are behaving like humans. There is no way to tell if they actually are, to ask them if this is what they’re doing, or to look into their brains. It’s not a proof that they have feelings like humans.
Of course we know that animals respond to stimuli from their environment through their nervous system. But do animals attach normative meaning to this stimuli, like humans do? Do they say, for instance, it’s cold and then say I’m unhappy because it’s cold?
I have heard that there are studies that have looked into the behavior of dogs in particular. That they express happiness, sadness, grief, depression, etc. I’ve also read, I believe in the NYT, that elephants remember their dead loved ones and come back to the spot they died to, in a way, to mourn. It’s not that I’m saying animals do not have feelings, I wanted to remark on Christian Dior’s comment.
Think about this. Do fish have feelings? Or Do frogs? Where do we draw the line? My point is, do we believe only those creatures who exhibit human like ways of acting have feelings? Or is it because they exhibit human ways of acting that they have feelings?

It’s funny how are species holds a specific likeliness for other species’ struggles. People would rather film a helpless species struggling, than help them for the sheer provoking thought of adorable.
P.S. If you have allergies, like me, I would prefer looking into herpetology. Snakes are wonderful, intellectual, dependent creatures that can, at sometimes, provoke the adorable relapse you crazy cat&dog lovers love.

anyone else hear the james taylor song, you’ve got a friend, playing as you look at this. great. enjoyed it. especially love how the pictures are set in stages of communication. besides, whether it’s hot or cold, when you’re lonely, who wants to sleep alone.

omg … how cute … i wish i can feed them what i want…jail them in my house….make them do antics and tricks for morsels…throw my temper tantrums at them and take my bad moods on them….make them wear uncomfortable clothing and cosmetics…carry them around in portable handbag straight jackets. They love me back for all this kind treatment because of instinctive feeder loyality and out right lack of options. I don’t care, because I think they love me.
are you people nuts???? CUTE????? SWEET????? are you blind???
They are starving and cold!!!!!!!!!!!! Using each other for warmth….its sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT cute and NOT sweet……poor little babies and the picture taker probably took this and ran to their nice warm home…..think about that…..cute and sweet my foot!!!!!!!!!!!
I almost cried. It’s simply too cute and innocent.
Mod on November 25, 2008
This is nice. Though I must point out if you look at the paint splatter on the wall you’ll notice the pup does all the moving. The cat could care less about its current situation, but hey it’s a cat.

this is NOT cute NOR sweet or any other gushy sentiment that blind humans want to woo-woo at, these are two animals that look like they’re freezing, and if that is the case, then there’s nothing cutsie about that……let’s turn the tables around and take a picture of ourselves outside freezing in the cold huddled with others freezing, and show it to people who say, “ooh, ahh”, eeh” how cute…..how long can you stay outside in the cold while you watch and hear them saying these stupid things inside their warm and confy homes…..sorry but I don’t take pleasure at other sentient beings suffering….

What is really cute is how everyone here is only interested in posting their own comments and not in reading what other people say! You have a comment that the puppy looks like it is starving, by someone saying ooooh it’s sooo cuuute (puke)! Looking at the picture rationally, the cat does not look as though it is necessarily cold or underfed. It may be, but there is no evidence of that in the picture. The puppy looks distressed. The position of its tail and its whole body language indicate some kind of distress - it may be cold, hungry or lonely (it has no collar, I don’t know if that is significant). It may be undernourished, but puppies tend to look thin as they start growing, so there is no evidence of that either.
The dog has approached the cat without being rejected (and no, cats do not always accept puppies approaching them, they often use their claws) , so they may come from the same household - they may be right outside their own front door for all we now. The dog appears to get some comfort by snuggling close to the cat, and the cat seems OK with it as well (its eyes are shutting in the last frame.
Now that is all I could deduce from looking at the pictures, you guys are probably a lot cleverer than me, but I suspect you are all just tinting your interpretations with your own prejudices, which is OK by me, but it does seem a bit silly. Oh, and that applies to the “they are starving and cold” group as well!
